Summary

A third-person survival horror action game which puts you in the role of FBI Agent Francis York Morgan. In the process of investigating a murder, you will examine a series of interlocking mysteries in a remote rural town and will encounter an array of complex characters pivotal to the unraveling of the storyline’s mystery. Suspenseful action sequences will force you to make strategic moves, gliding by enemies in the shadows or engaging them with long-range weapons or hand-to-hand melee combat. Amidst a backdrop of soaring mountains and a town filled with eccentric natives, Agent Morgan must solve the mystery of the ‘Red Seed Murders’ and stay alive in a place where supernatural creatures and a folklore killer seek to end his investigation permanently.

Destructoid

There is absolutely nothing in this industry that can compare to how weird and wonderful the whole experience is. Judged as a piece of entertainment, as a game that consistently surprises and amazes and leaves jaws hanging, I have no choice but to say that Deadly Premonition goes above and beyond. This game is so bad, it's not just become good. It's pretty close to perfect.

Digital Chumps

What's important here is that the game has a superb story, excellent characters, and is a hell of a lot of fun. Access Games knocked one out of the park with Deadly Premonition.

Gaming Target

With an intriguing murder mystery and a cast of locals that make the place seem like an open-air asylum, the game is enjoyable from start to finish despite the hassles of battle getting in the way all too often.

GameShark

If other games had the problems found in Deadly Premonition, they would be laughed off the 360 and into obscurity, but this game just has that staying power, that “je ne sais quoi” that makes you want to keep playing, to keep going forward, to keep unraveling the mystery, no matter how awful the controls and graphics.

Deadly Premonition, while lacking in the aesthetic aspect, is a surprisingly entertaining game.

GameFocus

In spite of some broken gameplay, the characterizations, campy writing, and a driving need to find out what happens next make Deadly Premonition a title that transcends the definition of what a budget game should be. It’s a sure-fire cult hit.

Game Informer

It’s incredibly flawed in areas that some consider core to the gaming experience and requires patience to persevere through the problems and get to the best moments. But for everything it lacks, it transcends the stigma of a budget title. If you’re looking for a strange but nonetheless unique experience, Deadly Premonition may satisfy an itch you didn’t even realize you had.

Official Xbox Magazine

Its production values are unquestionably budget, but the game’s ambitious level of corny self-awareness makes it a stupidly affordable, must-have cult title for the adventurous set.

Deadly Premonition is by no means a great game, at least in the traditional sense, but I'll be damned if I didn't enjoy every minute of my nearly 42 hours playing it. The setting and story might have a little too much in common with the early 1990s television series Twin Peaks, but the homage is done with love and admiration.

It looks ancient and controls poorly, but this entertaining and unpredictable horror adventure delivers more shocks than schlock.

It's the Amy Winehouse of videogames: rambling and incoherent, a bit of a mess and not much to look at, but with a unique and distinctive voice that's very hard to ignore.

Yes, some aspects are nowhere near where the bar has been set on current titles, but this game is something that is a truly unique experience as well as a love letter to fans of the survival horror genre. You really can't go wrong with picking this game up if you have the time to invest in it.

If you’re a fan of B-movies and want to invite a few friends over to create your own Mystery Science Theater 3000-style dialogue—or even if you’re on solo mode looking for a great story at the cost of palatable gameplay—this is a one-of-a-kind title and you owe it to yourself to pick it up. At a retail price of $19.99, you can’t beat Deadly Premonition’s cheap laughs and unique story. But if you’re looking for a straightforward, next-gen gaming experience, avoid this one at all costs.

The problems are pronounced and obvious, but somehow it has a charm and appeal that defies logic. This game is not for everyone. In fact, it won't be for most people. But, at an amazing value of twenty dollars, it may be a worthy investment for those that are bored of their current slate of games and are ready to put up with the numerous frustrations to experience the inane charm that Deadly Premonition offers, but don't say I didn't warn you.

A larger budget might have saved the driving physics and improved the experience of the town, but no amount of money could repair the terrible writing and wrong-headed design that really sink Deadly Premonition.

IGN

Awful in nearly every way. The Twin Peaks meets Resident Evil with a dash of Grand Theft Auto formula sounds pretty great, but it was well beyond the capabilities of this development team. Terrible controls. Terrible pacing. Terrible sound effects. Terrible visuals.

Michael F. gave it a10:
Never before have I played a game so horribly made that it's something truly special. Every single aspect of this game works with one another to create a unique experience that I've never had with any other game. The story is incredibly well thought-out, and the dialog is hilariously outstanding. For 20 bones, you'll be hard pressed to find another special piece of art like this that will last you a good 20 hours of story time, along with 50 side missions and 64 collectible items, all strewn across a MASSIVE open town that is incredibly believable and loving. Buy this, and don't think twice about it.

Ravens L. gave it an8:
Were the graphics bad? Very. Was the sound monotonous? Very. Were the controls broken? Yup. Did I love it anyway? Oh yeah. I can't imagine what these guys could do with a budget and some beta testers.

Ralph S. gave it a9:
This game is simply awesome. I paid lesse than 20 bucks for it(almost the price of a XBLA game) and I can´t believe how much there is to be done in the game. The plot is simply amazing and the main charecter is the best I´ve seen in a long time. The graphics are ok (like a HD Ps2 game) and the controls are very old school (kind of mix between Silent Hill and RE4). Just buy it! It is only 20 bucks!

phil Z. gave it a10:
Unfortunately, this game will please few New gamers. It's full of TV series, Games or Books references that are usually unknown for new gamers. But for old 'freak' gamers, this game is a must have and not because it's 'made in japan'. It is the most unbelievable game i played since long. I love the high res squirrel, i love the windshield wipers, i love coffee prediction and so on. Don't you agree Zach?

mike d gave it a3:
I'm a huge horror survival game fan, but this game is awfull. I usually love horror survival games that everyone else hates, but this game has no redeeming qualities at all. Even for 25$ new it;s still overpriced. Bad graphics, horrible story (typical Japanese nonsense)and it's not even a little scary. Other reviews that I've read say revel in it's goofiness. Well if your I.Q. is that low that something as bad and unentertaining as this game is than go for it, just remember to wear your helmet when outdoors.

Dude R. gave it a7:
From the looks of this game, it really looks like it came from another generation BUT considering the price (20 BUCKS), the sheer amount of stuff you can do in the game, and the fact that its so hilariously bad by today's standards that it clearly does not take itself seriously, this game is probably one of the best-worst games that have come out in a long time.

Adrian W. gave it a0:
Pure rubbish worlds worst game sega saturn had better games than this. These people should be shot for making this. Its awful graphics with dumb story dont buy this game please.
